The after effects of a challenging situation can have a huge impact on all parties involved. Being a reflective practitioner is vital for moving forward when working with behaviours. Loss and grief in Learning Disabilities

We all experience Loss and Grief differently but for people who have different communication styles expressing their emotional needs and experiences at these times can prove particularly challenging for them. This course looks at how they may present and the different stages we move through including what you can do at each stage to support someone.

Becoming Dementia Ready

There are a number of Syndromes within Learning Disabilities that lead to early age Dementia. If we can predict it coming, we can prepare to minimise functional skill loss for the individual by preparing the environment and the supporting staff on approaches, changes and patterns/routines.

Person centred engagement

Think about how often you sit and do nothing, no playing on your phone, no watching TV...just nothing. This is very different often for people with a Learning disability. This course looks at supporting people to be actively involved in everyday tasks so that their day is full and they are achieving better self confidence, communication and less behaviours that might cause a challenge to those around them.

Wellness Planning

It is hard for us to recognise when we are stressed and then to do something about it. We often prioritise other things over our self. People with Learning Disabilities are no different but they often also lack the Mental Health insight to be able to understand when they maybe becoming unwell. This looks at the physical signs and steps to maintain wellness.

Effective communication

We all communicate in different ways and particularly when working with people who use different methods to communicate it can be hard to understand what is being said. This looks at the principles of communication, the importance of effective communication and difference ways we can understand what someone is saying without using verbal language.

Care Planning and Risk Assessment

The documents you keep are vital for the safety and enrichment of people you supports lives. They need to be detailed, evidence based and defensible. This course looks at the ways we can plan care to be safe and enabling and what key factors need to go into a Risk Assessment and Care plan.
