Catastrophic Bleed

Our Catastrophic Bleeds course is the perfect option for high-risk working environments. Participants will be given all the skills and knowledge needed to support casualties experiencing catastrophic bleeds, which are not covered in standard first aid. Upon completion of the session, participants will have the confidence to apply tourniquets and haemostatic dressings, and preserving life in situations involving major bleeds.

  • To understand what is meant by a “catastrophic bleed”.

  • To identify possible risks and hazards for catastrophic bleeds and record them in an appropriate risk assessment.

  • To build confidence in responding to emergencies involving catastrophic bleeds.

  • To understand the purpose and mechanics of tourniquets, and how to apply them in a safe and effective way.

  • To demonstrate the application of haemostatic dressings.

  • To understand what first aid techniques are available to preserve casualty safety after bleeding has been managed.

Duration

6 hours teaching (7 Hour day to include breaks).
