Understanding Learning Disability

Aims of course:

Give yourself the perfect introduction to Learning Disabilities (LD) with our Understanding Learning Disabilities course. Covering specific syndromes, health needs, effective communication and identifiable behaviours, this course will give trainees all the tools needed to provide optimal care for individuals living with LD.

  • To explore the history, aetiology (causes) and classifications of LD.

  • To recognise the diagnostic pathway of LD.

  • To understand the different syndromes that fall under the label of LD.

  • To recognise behavioural patterns that present themselves in individuals living with LD.

  • To improve methods of verbal and non-verbal communication with individuals living with LD.

  • To understand the physical and mental health needs of individuals with LD, and the necessary care plans and risk assessments that allow support staff to meet these needs.

  • To gain insight into the social, physical and mental impacts of living with LD.

  • To know the tools available to support communication and health management for people who have LD.

Duration

6 hours teaching (7 Hour day to include breaks).
